Skipper
The first Heuer regatta timer as a wrist watch was produced in the mid 1960’s and was housed in a manual wind Carrera case. It was called the Skipper and production of this model continued well into the 1980’s. As each new case design was launched so to was there a new Skipper but always with the same basic function – a 15 minute countdown indicator at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. This is used by sailors to mark the warning signal sounded 15 minutes before the start of the race. All models after the first came in Autavia cases including the manual wind 7764, 73464 and automatic 1563 and 15640. The large countdown register and bold use of colour are the outstanding design features of this model.
